Alex Volpe grew up in Rome Italy where he attended Art College to then train as Hairdresser in 1984 at the Accademia Romana Acconciatori.
He completed his education learning the skills of hair & makeup for Films, TV, and Stage in London in 1991.
In 1992 Alex started his career working with Ann Oldham as junior hair and makeup artist in the BBC series “The Borrowers”.
Since then, he has worked with some of Hollywood’s and UK's biggest names during his long career in the industry and over 15 years of experience in the hair salon world firstly in Rome, Italy then located in London, Fulham under the name "Alessandro".
Alex is an eclectic individual and has developed a wide range of skills; from special makeup appliance and effects in various assignments such as “Welcome to Sarajevo”, aging Adam Godley in the film “Cor Blimey”, for ITV and helping guest stars to look their best on “So Graham Norton” with his Hair and Makeup skills.
He has matured and continues to extend his abilities to head Hair and makeup department; Taking responsibility as Chief hairdresser in “A Good Woman” caring for Scarlett Johansson and Helen Hunt personally, and from there on working, as Head of Department, in a variety of features films throughout Europe.
Alex won an RTS Television award with Anne Oldham in the TV drama for Channel Four “Sword of Honour” cutting Daniel Craig's hair into a 40s hairstyle.
Motivated by a constant need to improve his knowledge and skills, Alex found in Education area a vocation that provides further ground and stimulus for his academic interest in the art of Hairdressing and makeup.
After having collaborated as Tutor with Hair & makeup academies in London, he decided to pursue a parallel career in education and training to provide his next challenge. He achieved an award in Training and education at Chelsea and Westminster College in London.
